Vision

Sylvia Schuster lives to draw. An accomplished draftsman and printmaker, her vision radiates the elegance of line and form–skills born from a consummate mastery of media and an unerring aesthetic instinct.

Convinced that the human body is among the most beautiful objects on earth, Schuster rejoices in her ability to capture and communicate its splendor to others; an outcome towards which she has worked tirelessly for more than six decades. The barrage of art thus produced not only transmits the power of ineffable emotion, it signals her celebration of the act of its creation - a goal in and of itself that is fine-tuned by her practiced, sophisticated and creative eye.

Though Schuster’s subject matter is dominated by the human form, it is also eclectic, encompassing such monumental subjects as the Brooklyn Bridge, railroad trains and tracks. It also reflects her ability to explore the elegance of such simple subjects as chairs, still lifes or even (quite recently) frying pans!

Above all Schuster’s art remains dominated by the human figure, although her emphasis is on heads and faces. Importantly, however, her vision has always been driven by her love affair with the very act of artmaking. Combined with her belief in art’s power to reflect our deepest and most powerful hopes and dreams, she has created a unique imagery that has brought her a dedicated audience of collectors and institutions, an amazing record of exhibitions and the kudos of collectors, curators, critics and artists
